Description Please note, Birds of the World will be down for scheduled maintenance Tuesday, March 19 – Wednesday, March 20, 2024. Birds of the World (BOW) will launch to the public, thus replacing and greatly expanding Birds of North America and HBW Alive. Birds of The World contain 10,721 species accounts from every bird species in the world and is an entirely new scientific publication that merges and enhances content, data, multimedia, figures, and illustrations from four different ornithological volumes: Birds of North America (BNA), Neotropical Birds, Handbook of Birds of the World (HBW Alive), and Bird Families of the World. This content is now delivered on a fast, new digital platform and is integrated with multimedia from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s Macaulay Library and millions of bird records from eBird. Previously as Birds of North America: In two centuries of American ornithology, The Birds of North America (BNA) is only the fourth comprehensive reference covering the life histories of North American birds. Now as an online project of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, BNA is poised to become a living resource. Account contents will be updated frequently, with online-coordinated contributions from researchers, citizen scientists, and designated reviewers and editors. In addition, BNA Online will build image and video galleries showing behaviors, habitat, nests, eggs and nestlings, and more. And each online species account will contain recordings of that bird's songs and calls, selected from the extensive collection in Cornell's Macaulay Library of Natural Sounds.
